This follow up to 'Generica' takes a step back from the critical analysis of American society's current state of being and dives deeper into the personalities known as Smo and Gro.

These songs are a more soulful look into the lives of our favorite BUNKS as Gro enters fatherhood and Smo welcomes his 3rd child into the world.

Listeners will still note a certain amount of commentary on society and rap music, but with a more laid back, chilled-out attitude.

Grab the mic, start a revolution, Let me start this essay by jumping to conclusions, You love your TV, it fills you with delusions, You in the game to win but over half of ya’ll are losing, It’s day to day life that I’m trying to improve, It’s the simple things that matter, small steps, big moves, The needle to the record, feel the flow with the groove, This is soul rebel music, am I playing your tune? I’ve been paying my dues, while I’m watching ya’ll drop, Ya’ll been missing the clues, while you’re racing to the top, Fifteen minutes of fame, change your name for everything, Then fall off the map, who was that?! This is soul rebel music, are we playing your tune? Its J.Smo and J.Gro with one mic, breaking through, Put the needle to the record feel the BUNKS as we the groove, Match the rhymes with the music, see the message make you move. The name’s J.Gro and for duty I’m reporting, Tired of the lying and the faking and distorting, The bullshit news and its biased point of views, Those that try to tell us what to say and what to do, Fit in the mold and forget paying dues, You might could be someone if you wear the right shoes, I’d run myself through if you even had a clue, You can be the Big Lebowski, I’m just trying to be the dude, You ain’t got to make a mil to be good at what you do, Like a kid from the hills, you can’t change your point of view, White boy with the soul make you feel it in your bones, Rebel to the core changing music on our own, Put the needle to the record like the wheat to the stone, It just takes you higher when you get it homegrown, We’re playing your song, feel your body start to groove, Its time to take a stand, see the message, make your move. Forget the 9 to 5s, I-9s, and 1040s, Forget the misdemeanor citations, I can’t afford it, All the pain in the world, I can’t help but absorb it, Unleash it to the planet, this mission, won’t abort it, My anti-drug to cable is fluffy and sticky, All these images are sickly and they flashing aplenty, Repetition engraved, superstitions enflamed, While they numb you to the grave, I’m filling with rage, Filling with rage, as I’m filling this page, Pour the gas on the fire and I feel the decay, All the people who say, that they pray for a change, Day after day seem to lose they way, But call me Mr. Automatic when it comes to wreaking havoc, Put pen to the paper and commence to let ‘em have it, Eight years of paying dues, I refuse to subdue, When Smo’s got my back there’s no way I’ll lose.
Gladiators (free) 03:02
Far from the hills of Tennessee and straight into your home, I’m cursed to live my life like I was born in ancient Rome, To poor to be a prince, I got to scrap for what I own, In this dirt, in the heat, on the grind, I make these bones, From Beasties to the Lady and these BUNKS born in the 80s, Destined to be a gladiator since I was a baby, Hard-headed, thick-skinned, and just a little crazy, Got a thousand BUNKS behind me, we’re never going to fade, see? Cause we’re gladiators, send these haters to our coliseum, We’ll feed ‘em to the lions, it’s the last time that you’ll see ‘em, We’re gladiators walking tall, dust covers our feet, Gladiators, face to face you don’t want to meet up with these, Gladiators, cause you know we ain’t never scared, We are what we are cause these BUNKS ain’t never cared. Everday I’m taking shots, directly to my self-esteem, Feel the pressure building slowly killing drive to reach this dream, You need my time? I need that cream. One Mic Studios ain’t free, Pay them bills, pay that rent, buy them diapers, don’t you see? A working man, who works his plan, own the label, run the clan, Call the shots and make the suits, put their money in my hand, Independent, underground, unmatched noise is how we sound, Navigating through your system, feel us rumble then touchdown, Adapt to life, play these games, make these moves without a shame, Expect the worst and when it hits, be the first to turn the page, Be the first to flee the cage, spread your wings and fly away, Leave it all behind for something greater than a pile of change, Increase the pace, change of tastes, flavors fading with some haste, Its time for spices, BUNKS are nice kid…
Its Music 03:24
I’ve got this new addiction and I don’t know where to start, This thing is taking over me, its moved into my heart, Its summer, spring, winter, fall, the seasons, man, it goes with all, It may not be a safety net, but will be there to catch you when you fall, Its that feeling that you get when your soul starts to let go, You can feel it in your bones and then you feel it in your soul, Its that movement that takes over when your body lose control, You stay groovin’, steady movin’ man, and going with the flow, Its that peace, that love, that ectasy, That hate, that rage, that’s filling me, It’s the feeling that you felt when you first learned about the birds and bees, Soundtrack to all your skinned knees, first kisses, heartbreaks, then and thee, The sound you hear when thinkin’ bout cruisin’ in your SUV, It’s the wind that whistles in your ear, and all the scary things you fear, Still brings out the best in everything you know that will be right there, I’d love to tell you more, but now I’m afraid I’ll lose it, The last thing that I’ll tell you, this is how I feel about music. Its all about the heists and hustles, the times and struggles, Its more than how we flex this muscle, lets end this struggle, Its music…Its music... You can take it all away but at the end of the day, I still got my music… When you’re bringing unmatched noise knowledge and sound how can you refuse it? Bottom line you can’t take my flow, every time I’ma steal the show, City to city let me go, unleash this beast from coast to coast, Don’t believe you understand, I’m reaching out with helping hands, Touching down in foreign lands, is all embedded in this plan, Don’t have much, but I know how to give, barely get by, but I know how to live, Sacrifice self, do this all for my kids, I give it my all with this pad and this pen, Take it so lightly if you choose, sit back listen, pop that brew, Roll that blunt, do what you do, we the BUNKS, we here for you, Life so hard? You not alone, we’ll get you by, we’ll take you home, Come on ride through Tennessee, learn about our tendencies, Country roads, county fairs, family trees, mountain air, You can try and find us but your GPS won’t help you here.
I’m looking for some help, this is bigger than myself, This is bigger than the memories we keep on the shelf, Making music for our people with the cards that we’re dealt, Everyday we bring it to you like we got nothing else. One day at a time, rhyme after rhyme, All I got in life are my feelings, these lines, All I got to give is these words, inspiration, Positive views to uplift the situation, Every day I do every thing that I can, Dream about the plan, sculpt a miracle with hands, Expand mindframes with the voices in my head, Find it hard to sleep when alone in my bed, I fight every day to keep breaths above water, Step into the field and you’re gonna get slaughtered, Dodgin’ all these shots from the world’s cold shoulder, When it rains, it pours, the drops are size of boulders, Can you feel it ‘cause I feel it, something like a rumble, The BUNKS have come to soothe you, keep the egos humble, Its bigger than ourselves, these boys are on a mission, Its bigger than the biggest sized dream you could vision. This is bigger than my enemies that hinder me, This is about those who befriended me, kin to me, and always give they all to see, That Gro keep living life like the Army, Be all that I can be and never sweat the ones that harm me, The ones alarmed to see the passion burning in my eyes, That know I won’t stop until this dream is realized, If the sky is the limit, then I stay aiming high, You can have the corner office, this is my sky rise, See the sunshine glow, another brighter sunrise, But the sun ain’t so sweet when you’ve never known the night, Your life ain’t the same without the ones who give you light, The ones that hold you down and help you keep your dreams in sight, The ones who call your phone to make sure you’re getting along, The ones who give you reason to keep making songs, The ones whose very being is the reason you exist, The ones, when they’re gone, you know they’ll be missed. All I got in life are is kids with different mamas, One is my queen and the other brings the drama, Callin’ me a bad father, chips away at my honor, But the truth is understood by my son and my daughter, I give it all with every breath that I take, Addicted to this excess we need to moderate Conflicted by these messages they feed us to taste, Give your scraps to the dogs when you’re finished with the plate, So much pain to digest, they ask me how I do it? Its bigger than myself, I give my life to BUNKS music, Raise these people out the dumps, give ‘em some amusement, Give ‘em something for they spirit, hard times we get through it, I got my mic, I got my pen, I got my pad, let’s go, Therapy in these lines, let’s go, just flow, We got no control, so don’t waste your grip, This is bigger than ourselves, this is bigger than this ship.
Forget your glocks, your techs, and your 4-5s, We got double-barrels, muzzleloaders by our side, We got tree stands, sniper rifles, perfect sights, Bring your automatics, spray the scene and give us light, We see you coming, got you running, You can’t hide behind that frontin, You can’t find that special something, All your wars have got you nothing, What you fighting for?! What you breathing for?! What you living for?! What you out here mobbing and stealing and killing for?! What’s to gain, you live in shame, Think you the man cause you got game? You insane, attain some knowledge, see the good that it can bring, Pour these rhymes into they brain, have ‘em screaming bring the pain, Pack the clip and pull it back and watch these words go with the aim, Follow through, pay your dues, Never stop that’s what we do, Grab the mic and bang the beat and spit until our face is blue, One Mic the Crew, Mid-TN our town, BUNK’n’Bass that be our sound, If you need to find us you can look into the underground. Grab the mic and hit record, someone get behind the board, Fire the beat up, let it bang and boom and shake ‘til early morning, BUNKS are ready with those rhymes, lift your spirit, make you fly, Bumpin to this music going to help you see the other side. I’m going to take you to the other with my brother from another mother, When you see us coming, its best to duck and run for cover, You done heard what Smo been sayin, in the BUNK man we ain’t playin’, We stay droppin’ knowledge and you know we going to keep it sprayin’, Never understand how you could underestimate, A movement full of people out here chompin’ at the gate, You know we ain’t the only ones, just look at everything we’ve done, There’s thousands of us out here feeling the same way, this ain’t for fun, Represent the thousands out here feeling like we do, Some may look like me and yea, some may look like you, Just sick of all the day to day, the grind, and all the bull, Trying to take this empty plate and work it ‘til it’s full, With the country as my backdrop I’m going to take you to the BUNK, I’ll tell you now that sound you hear ain’t always in the trunk, These 4x4s and 4-wheel drives, keep this country out here alive, Welcome to my city in the BUNK you on the other side. Forget the drugs, the sluts, the cars, and fine clothes, Your rims keeping spinnin’ but you never moving on, Sold your soul for some bling, left a mama with your kid, No respect for baby daddies who ain’t takin’ care of his, You dudes are lame, you run your game, but never man up, It’s a shame you want your fame delivered to you on a bus, BET and MTV, yea your dreaming of the Grammys, But you refuse to put in work, your life is just a hand-me, Sell your soul to the devil boy the price ain’t cheap, Dinosaur corporations crush your self under they feet, See the signs of coming times, unravel ancient scripts, Subliminals delivered to you when we drop these hits, Bringing unmatched noise knowledge and sound, we stay underground, Rumble through the internet in waves to praise the ways of days, When all we had to do was play.

Make A Deal 03:06
I spend my days in the land of the sun, Stay up on this beat like run baby run, Flow hittin’ hard like a shot from a gun, Crazy white boy havin’ too much fun, I’m comin’ too undone, my brain unspun, May bow to my superiors, but you ain’t one, Thoughts hold me down like they weigh a ton, This boy might explode with no explanation, Run baby run, that’s what they yellin’, Gro’s flows blow ya mind to the cerebellum, I can tell ‘em, I can show ‘em, watch the way I flow ‘em, I am the poet and these lines they be my poem, I keep it goin’, no time to take it slow, Been bustin’ my ass to get on your radio, So with this CD spinnin’, relax and lose control, Soul Rebel Music is about to blow. What you got to offer? Let’s make a deal, The price is a steal, tell your people how it feels, Business is the business, money leads to the junk, Watch the world pile up ‘til off this mountain we jump. Pick up twenty and dodge the feds, Four-door compact, RPMs in red, Now I drive a sled, blue skies help me realize, People’s minds mis-read, Guaranteed in error, give it back to terror, Attached to hysteria? It’s cool. I’m used to playin’ b-ball in this pool, Hoopin’ over some fools, grabbin’ some tools, Singin’ the blues, drink me a brew, at the end of the day, My night just begins, time to fade away, Come again and it’s time to continue and stay, Eighteen on the bars and I’m handling great, On the curves I don’t ever really think to hesitate, It’s a natural state of being, just demonstrating tastes, It’s the pressure that creates, reasons give no one a chance, End up living with regrets, So I ease up this clutch, leaving all deception crushed. Manipulate your brain, to the stars we gaze, This boy’s got a dream, this man needs a raise, Ridin’ through these valleys working hard to maintain, These roads are rough, but it’s hard we play, Ready for the ride, gonna rise with the tide, Float out to sea as these sun’s rays shine, Tongue twisted by this life, I’ll get mine, You won’t see me coming, but you can’t hide, Music in your ears ‘til the day we die, Sacrifice to make it work, that’s our life, Bring it to you raw, got the people droppin’ jaws, BUNKS style baby, run the show, make the calls, Sell you stuff, get you good, how you feel? Life your spirits to the sky, yes I will, I vow to my fam that we will never fall, So bump and ride to the BUNKS, come on ya’ll.
Do It Better 02:39
Lovesick (free) 03:16
she got me lovesick, from the day that we met I knew there was this, feeling inside I can’t avoid it, the way that I’m feelin’ she got me lovesick I thought I’d never say it but this girl got me a fiendin’ I’d given up on love but this girl got me believin, from the first time I saw her I had to make her mine, I’m tired of losin’ nickels, I finally found a dime, now I need the words cause I don’t know what to say, I thought I had ‘em comin’ but she took my breath away, straight hair, tattoos, good clothes, matchin’ shoes, when she showed up in that skirt, boy, I didn’t know what to do, take it slow, catch your breath, get your mind up in the zone, if you play your cards right you can take this girl home so I did, months later, mama’s havin’ my kids, got me lovesick babygirl, look what you did, now we in this apartment and we sharin’ compartments, baby stuff is pilin’ up from the infants’ deparment, no regrets, drama-free, got me feelin’ no stress, you encouragin’ this music and you bringin’ out my best, she got me lovesick. she got me lovesick, reelin’, feelin’ just like a fiend, if you know a girl that’s like her then you know just what I mean, a mean lil broad with a smile like “oh my God”, take your breath away and leave a pain in your heart, but that’s how it starts, she’s always there on your mind, I can’t believe she’s got me writin’ these rhymes, can’t believe she got me spendin’ my time, tryin’ to get to know her and schemin’ to make her mine, I feel just like this feelin’ will never go away, so deep down inside, I hide these feelings every day, I hide to keep my pride and this fantasy both alive, afraid that if I told her she would tell me goodbye, now I’m beggin’ please just save me from these thoughts that drive me crazy, tryin’ to play it cool but I feel just like the fool, can’t tell her how I’m feelin’ so I bury it away, Lovesick I’m feelin’ and lovesick I’ll stay.
I see that cookie-cutter life, I ain’t never fit in, Outkast, outlaw, being judged my friends, They say they friends, they ain’t my friends, that’s how this story begins, Overturn and overcome, it’s over-standing, ya dig? I say we grab the shovel, hit the dirt; now it’s time to get to work, Got mouths to feed, you best believe, I feel the pain of dirty deeds, Done dirt cheap to fill they greed, ship that cargo overseas, Triple profits in the name of filling pockets, what’s to gain? I’m so ashamed of rising prices and lower pay, I need to find a way to find a brighter day, every night I kneel to pray, But what’s the use, I’m losing juice and motivation to continue, Every day I see the same lame options sitting on the menu, Where’s my change? Reset the stage, I fill this pain with ink and rage, I’m searching for that simple life, the one that feels all right, It’s so dark shed me some light, show me a spark, a flicker in the night, Something that will get me motivated for this fight. I’m searching for that simple, the one that I know will be all right, I see the wrong, shed me some light. Show me the day, I’ve seen the night. We’ve lost our way, it’s sad to say. It breaks my heart, I night I pray, These tears they flow as evil grows, hold on tight we’ve lost control. I can’t tell you what they’ve done to me, oh I say but cannot see, This dawn’s early light breaking, taking all I am to make me be, Twelve hours a day I slave, still I’m coming up flat broke, Took out a loan to get to work, I’ll tell you it’s a joke, Inflation’s got me pacing man, I don’t know what to do, If gas goes up another dime, I’ll tell you what, I’m screwed, I grew up old school, on the land, working hard with my hands, But nowadays that type of work is just not in demand, It’s all about the Pentiums here in this new millennium, If I can’t fix it with a hammer then I just can’t help anyone, I’m already done standing here, waiting in this line, I don’t need a hand-out but the bank foreclosed what’s mine, John Rich has already said it, they’re shutting Detroit down, While the banks and automakers keep on putting their hands out, When I think about my family, I just want to breakdown, So if you’re up there on that hill, I’m the one you can bail out.
This writer’s block is trying to take a hold, Got my mind tied in knots trying to make me fold, Want to tell you what I’m thinking, trying to bear my soul, Make you feel what I’m feeling, now you know that’s the goal, Cause I take too much time using purty words, And I should say what I’m thinking sounding so absurd, When you get to speaking, yea, I lose my nerve, Can’t seem to bring myself to say the things you haven’t heard, Somehow I just expect you to know, I never say what’s on my mind; I keep hoping that it shows, But the words that I’m looking for will never leave my mouth, So I put my pen to this paper to let them all get out, I know this one chance is all that we’ve been given, And you ain’t go to be dying to really start living, Time keeps ticking and I’m wasting it away, Don’t put off for tomorrow, the ones you miss today.
I’ma soul rebel, with most my own devils, I keep it on the low, I stay here on the level, I’m not the first to talk, you know I keep it mellow, But you fuck with my fam and you know I’ll crack ya kettle, I walk with no fear, I drink too much beer, In case you haven’t heard, I’m kinda big around here, Cause I been around here, I hold it down around here, When you come to Mid-TN, you watch your mouth around here, Cause we all laid back, no one pushin’ Maybachs, We run as thick as thieves, I know these hills have got my back, And I got their’s too, I hold it down for my crew, We the go-getters, make it do what it do. I’m ridin through Tennessee, cause these hills, they’re a part of me, And these backroads they call for me, so I answer they call, I’ma a soul rebel with most of my own devils, Put the pedal to the medal and watch the dust fall. Tennessee born and raised, Bible belt taught us to pray, Coffee County where we stayed, in the fields of farms we played, Early mornings get to work, rain or not, get in the dirt, Out to sunset, feel the burn, hand me paper, time to turn, Light this Bic, inhale this herb, hittin’ sixty through the curve, Mountain roads, smell the air, Feel the breeze take ya cares, And make ‘em disappear, Bang this BUNK hit and let it dissipate your fears, Roll down the windows, let the music reach they ears, Feel the bass go through you, let the treble make it clear, That the BUNKS are here to stay, we here to lay raps, J.Smo produce the tracks, let Gro melt the wax, The team that bring the steam we cook the meat and then we serve it, We’d offer you some seconds but you really don’t deserve it, You talkin’ like your clean but you really ain’t that perfect, In the South we see the depth, you transparent at the surface, Your act is proving lame, we about to drop the curtains, If your feelings get to hurtin’ ask yourself if you certain, I’ma hit the road, you can call me on the phone, Leave a message, I won’t answer, through these hills as I roam. I know you got to feel this, this backhills country real shit, Moonshine, sweet wine, (can I get another swig), So hit me with that JD, it keeps these ladies crazy, Gentle Jack and Coke could be the recipe for babies, Been crazy since the 80s and escalating lately, Still I can’t help it, that’s how my mom made me, That’s how my pops raised, that’s how these hills shaped me, Jack Daniels, George Dickel, influenced me greatly, If you’re looking for me too long, I’m out here playing beer pong, These 24 cans will be long gone before dawn, Time to watch this sun climb these Tennessee hills, We been up all night seeking Tennessee thrills, Giving Tennessee chills with this venom I spill, Got my finger on the pulse to see how Tennessee feels, But its time to take the 6, hit the gravel, have a ball, Put the pedal to the medal and watch the dust fall.
Round and round we go, looking for people we know, No destination, just flow where the wind blows, Find a party in a field, now its time to buckle up, Let’s see who gets stuck, mud swallowing the truck, Is everybody drunk? I’m trying to find another beer, You got some liquor & punch? Well, bring it over here, Let’s hit the strip, circle Burger King, come back, Park and sit at Sonic while we bang these BUNK tracks, Who can bump the loudest? I hear ‘em down the street, Set up shop at Food Lion and let the bass compete, See the cops creeping, everybody disappears, Swerving thru these back roads like we’ve done it for years, I know you feel the tears when the tractors in the parking lot, The seniors about to go, let the others take our spot, Keep Manchester with us as we rise to the top, These Coffee flavored memories are why we won’t stop. Manchester, put your lighters up and ride to this beat, These Coffee flavored memories, they bring us to peace, The simple, small town life is underrated, you see? I been around the world and back and I belong in CC. From playgrounds to ball parks, Field day, hay rides, Tractor pulls, barbeque, We set the scene, eleven years, Hillsboro, stand up, Them Tigers on the court with us, Shooting hoops in the gravel dust, Staying outside from dawn till dusk, Coffee flavored memories are living with us, 127 headed west, taking Cajun to the lake, Check the trailer hitch and lights, we about to go fish, Pedal on two wheels, jump and make new hills, Cutting tracks in a field, watching ‘em turn hay into bails, Farming for they money how’s this little town lives, Garden filled with nature’s heart, Tire swing, brick chimney, patio, evergreens, Listen as the birds sing, This place, my soul will never leave. I can still smell game time fresh in the air, Hear the stands go wild, its been years since I been there, Homecoming near hysteria, And every dance was held in the cafeteria, Senior year came and went, then we moved on, I never will believe I’ve been gone this long, All my Red Raiders put your hands in the air, Gonna take a quick moment for the ones who ain’t here, Dusty E, a local legend, and a stand-up man, Left this earth too soon still it’s hard to comprehend, T.R. Newlin was a mentor to me, A gentle giant who always gave back to his community, His son, Kevin, also left too soon, An all American guy who’s memory lives on through, And though I don’t have time to list you all here, Coffee County’s in my heart always near and dear.
